Safety Tips for While You're Out- Stay with your friends and look out for each other. You are much more likely to stay safe if you have other people around you.
- If you are going to be without your friends for any length of time, let them know where you are going and who you are going to be with.
- Buy your own drinks or only accept them from people that you know and trust. Know your limits when drinking - have the courage to say when you've had enough alcohol.
- Never leave your drink unattended.
- Avoid Confrontation - a debate can become much more heated when fuelled by alcohol.
- Keep your mobile phone with you at all times, but keep it out of sight.
Safety Tips for Walking Home
- Walk in well-lit areas where there are other people around.
- If you believe you are being followed, cross the road. If the person behind follows you, cross the road again. If you are still followed, head for a place of safety.
- Try and avoid alleyways, underpasses and open green areas. Keep to roads where there are likely to be other people around.
- Keep your bags and mobile out of sight.
- Do not listen to personal stereos or talk on your mobile phone while walking - this advertises that you have something valuable on you and distracts you from what is going on around you.
