Recycling at Peterhouse

For those living in college

There are several recycling bins within college, (behind Fen Court by the bike racks, and a paper bin at the bottom of WSB), to allow undergraduates to dispose of recyclable waste. There are bins for both paper and glass, and they should be clearly marked. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THE BINS PROPERLY. Please, please don’t put plastics in with glass, or plasticised paper (like milk or juice cartons, for example) in with the rest of the paper, as this stops waste being processed. Just use common-sense about this. (I believe in some colleges, the recycling rep has been known to go rooting through the bins to remove non-recyclable waste. We do not want that situation.)

If anyone has any questions about what materials are suitable to be recyled, or about the recycling facilities available in college, or any suggestions, please do get in touch.

For those living in Parkside/Warkworth Street

All houses at Parkside and Warkworth street should have a black box for recylable goods. If you don't have one, and want to be recyling stuff, let me know. (Also let me know if you seem to have two boxes.)

Things that you can put in this box are:

Things that should NOT go in the box are:

The boxes are collected by the council once a fortnight, on the same day that your main bin is emptied, so should be left outside that morning. For Walkworth Street this is Thursday: the October collections of black boxes will be Thursday 6th and Thursday 20th. For Parkside, rubbish is collected on Tuesdays, and the first black box collections of term will be on 4th October and 18th October. If you are not sure on what day your rubbish is collected, check the council’s website, or get in touch.

Thanks, guys,
