The Target Schools Campaign
For more information, or to volunteer, contact your Access & Equal Opportunities Officer - Natacha Tiemann (nt276)

Unfortunately students all over the country believe that in order to get into Cambridge they have to pay extra fees, that all Cambridge students live an expensive lifestyle, that everyone is posh or boring or an egghead, or all three. But we all know this just isn’t the case.

The CUSU Target Campaign sends Cambridge students out into schools all over the country to tell sixth formers what life at Cambridge is really like and dispel a few myths.

We are looking for volunteers to visit schools in their local area over the Easter vacation and give a short talk about their experience of Cambridge. If you care about the access cause then we want to hear from you!

There will be a prize and an award for the college that gets the most volunteers, so get involved and do your college proud. It only takes up a few hours and is one of the best ways to encourage those who wouldn’t normally consider Cambridge to do so.

So come on, join the CUSU Target Campaign and change someone’s mind.

CUSU have heavily invested in an online system whereby you can log on yourself and get the details of the various schools in your area, and hence choose the one at which you would like to speak. For those of you who have emailed me with requests to speak at certain schools which are quite far away from you, simply type in the school's postcode instead of your own, and if the school is affiliated it should show up and you can apply for it. For those international students who've kindly volunteered, you can only really do so if your staying in the UK for a period over easter, in which case type in the postcode of the area where you are staying.

Right - to apply, do the following:

  1. Click on the link: http://www.srcf.ucam.org/cusutc/
  2. Click on 'New Student Register here' to enter your details - You'll get an email allowing you to activate your account which you can then do
  3. Click on the 'school locator' on the right hand side & type in your postcode (or a school's postcode if you specifically want to talk there)
  4. Tick the school at which you'd like to speak and click 'sign up' at the bottom
  5. Click on the 'tips and code' where you found the 'school locator' tab & follow all the instructions from there telling about contacting the school, etc

That's it! It really is very easy to follow & even I seem to be able to work it. Send me a mail if you have any problems and I'll endeavour to solve it. Thank you so much again for applying - I truly think this is a worthwhile cause.

All the best,
Natacha Tiemann
