Across the year, Pembroke GP chooses several charities to raise money for, through different events. So far this year, we have raised money for the British Red Cross Syria Crisis Appeal in the form of an Open Mic Night, and also raised over £2700 for Jimmys Night Shelter with a Black Tie Charity Auction!
Coming up: On April 30th, some of the members of Pembroke GP will be taking part in a sponsored cycle ride from Oxford to Cambridge to rise money for a student crowd-funded studentship for a Syrian refugee to study at Cambridge. For updates, check this page, and our Twitter feed!
Pembroke GP Black Tie Charity Auction, Friday 11th March 2016
The GP held a Black Tie Charity Auction on Friday March 11th 2016 in support of Jimmy’s Night Shelter, (http://jimmyscambridge.net). Jimmy’s Night Shelter is a fantastic local charity which makes a huge positive impact on the homeless community around Cambridge. Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Jimmy’s is the only emergency accommodation provider in the city. They offer a warm, welcoming environment to 22 men and women (and two dogs) who would otherwise be forced to sleep rough or in inappropriate or inadequate conditions. We were delighted to raise over £2700 for Jimmy’s, with the help of a live auction, a raffle, and lots of bubbles.
Open Mic Night, Saturday 20th February 2016
Pem Grads broke out their guitars, sheet music, best singing voices, latest jokes, and favourite poetry for an awesome open mic night, all in aid of the British Red Cross Syria Crisis. To add a fun twist to the event, there was a competition among the acts, with voting taking the form of donating money to the charity. There were some amazing and very special acts!
