here are some information about some really interesting events that are going on this week:
Next week, CUES is organising Green Week and judging by the list of events
and activities, it's hard not to find something that won't interest anyone!
GREEN WEEK 2012: The one-week Student Switch Off: Sign the energy pledge or
take part in the online climate quiz, and enter the draw to win a
solar-powered phone charger, worth £60!
Monday 6th Feb:
Film screening: Blood of the Amazon 6.30pm in the Riley
Auditorium, Clare College Memorial Court (on Queens Road).
This film documents the impacts of the oil industry on the environment and indigenous
people.
The film maker, Nicola Peel, will give a talk about her work after
the screening. Cost: voluntary donation of £1
Tuesday 7th Feb:
Film screening: the Economics of Happiness
6.45pm at the Arts Picturehouse, 38-39 St Andrew's Street.
Followed by a talk by renowned economist Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta.
Cost: normal Arts Picturehouse charges apply.
Wednesday 8th Feb:
Vegetarian formal at Fitz - 7pm for 7.30pm.
Bring your own wine or buy a bottle of Fairtrade wine from the Fitz College
Bar. Gowns are optional.
Cost: £8
Thursday 9th:
Feb Ethical formal at Christ's, 7pm for 7.30pm. This ethical
formal offers you locally sourced food, sustainably sourced fish,
free-range eggs, and Fairtrade dessert.
Half a bottle of wine allowed per person. Gowns optional.
Friday 10th Feb:
Energise Cambridge rally, 12pm on Parker's Piece.
Join us for the launch of our new campaign, Energise Cambridge, which aims to
persuade the University to move towards a greater share of renewable energy
in their energy supply. Show your support by forming a wind turbine on the
green that will be photographed and filmed. There will be food, music and a
chance to be part of a 'bigger picture'!
Cost: free
Charity ceilidh Emmanuel United Reformist Church, 8-10pm .
A green themed
charity ceilidh organised by CUSU Ethical Affairs. Dress up for the
environment! All proceeds will go to Cambridgeshire Wildlife trust.
Cost: £4 on the door
Saturday 11th Feb:
Swap shop at Darwin.
3-5pm in the Darwin Common Room.
Bring clothes, shoes, books, any items that you no longer need, and swap
them for something else! To attend as a non-Darwinian, you must email the
Darwin Green Officer, Charlotte Rae, on dcsa_greena[t]darwin.ac.uk so she can
let the porters know you are coming.
