May Bumps 1995
Men's 1st VIII
Wednesday
The first day saw Downing II escape the mighty Kings by hitting Jesus
II leaving a simple row over.
Thursday
Jesus II in front was quite a battle. With the boat closing over the
first few minutes of the race, we saw a canvas gap by Ditton Corner.
Neither crew was able to find that extra boat speed necessary to
settle the matter, both giving everything along the reach. Finally we
managed to pick it up at the White House and began to close the gap
hitting Jesus around the Pink House.
Friday
Again chasing Downing II, and again they bumped up, this time on
Selwyn I, to leave us another row over.
Saturday
With the chance of hitting another first eight - especially one from
our boathouse, and denying Girton I their blades the crew got off to a
good start. Starting to hit Selwyn's rough water in the gut the crew
never really settled down, and by the time that control had been
regained, Girton had smelt blood along the Plough Reach. The bump was
made outside the Plough.
Men's 2nd VIII
Wednesday
Unable to make any impact on Downing III in front, the crew rowed away
from the crew behind, Magdalene III, who were hit by CCAT I. However
that left the way clear for eventual blade winners Churchill III for
the overbump.
Thursday
Some revenge was had by hitting Magdalene III to make up one place
lost on wednesday.
Friday
Again rowing away from Madgalene, this time hit by Pembroke III, the
crew fell open again to the threat from Robinson II, who overbumped.
Saturday
With the crew chasing Magdalene III yet again, at least the bump was
certain.
Men's 3rd VIII
Wednesday
The week started well for the 3rd VIII by hitting Trinity Hall IV.
Thursday
Unable to make any impact on Downing IV in front, both crews rowed
over.
Friday
With nowhere to go in front, Kings III fell victim to Girton III.
Saturday
With the faster Girton crew in front, and crews bumping out behind,
Kings III was left to row over.
Women's 1st VIII
Wednesday
Unable to catch up Corpus I in front, the crew rowed over with crews
bumping out behind.
Thursday
Jesus II behind hit QMABC, unable to escape by hitting Corpus.
Friday
QMABC fell foul of LMBC II on friday.
Saturday
Peterhouse proved too strong for the crew on the last day.

Rachel 'what was his name?' Hammer(ed)sly
Janni 'can anyone cox tomorrow?' Rodd
Liz 'squeaky' Reynolds
Jiny 'which end of the oar do I row with?' Stefanova
The crew overcame the minor problem of not having a cox, having a bow who
never remembered the plug her hearing aid in, an average height of 5ft 2
and the best efforts of a Maggie cox to have a grest term's rowing.
Special thanks to all the 11 people who discovered new coxing talent
in our boat this term.
