We are particularly encouraged by your involvement and some very valuable inputs from your end, and we have made an effort to incorporate these suggestions as best as we could in the letters. The letter discussing the details of the Jan Lokpal Bill draft has been sent to both the co-chairs Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and Mr. Shanti Bhushan, and copied to the India Against Corruption campaign.
Our involvement in this campaign was covered by Cambridge First weekly newspaper in their most recent issue. The article can be found HERE.

11/04/11 India Against Corruption Update
Following the meeting held on Sunday 10 April at Queens' College to discuss and debate the various features of the Jan Lokpal Bill draft and to commit ourselves to see the process of setting up an effective anti-corruption law through to the end, CUIS has drafted a letter to the Joint Drafting Committee that has been set up by the Government of India, headed by the Hon'ble Finance Minister of India - Shri Pranab Mukherjee. We will be sending this along with our previously drafted letters of appeal / support to the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Anna Hazare. If you would like to sign the letters, please sign up HERE BEFORE ***noon Wednesday***
You are also welcome to raise any disagreements / concerns you may have with regard to the letter.
With the bill set to be tabled in the monsoon session of Parliament, it is an important time to be informed and responsive, and make your opinions on this crucial bill known.

09/04/11 India Against Corruption Updated
As many of you will know, the India Against Corruption campaign has met with a very positive outcome as the government has consented to set up a joint committee of civil society representatives and ministers, co-chaired by one member from each of the two factions. The Prime Minister has issued a statement expressing his happiness over the agreement reached by civil society and the Government in a mutual resolve to combat corruption. He has also indicated that the bill should be tabled by the monsoon session of Parliament.
In the light of these positive recent developments, we are calling off the FAST that was proposed for Sunday.
But we must not forget that the complete success of this campaign will be on the day when the Lokpal Bill finalised by this joint committee will be tabled and and passed in parliament. As Anna Hazare himself has said, the real fight begins now.
We will still be holding a meeting on Sunday 10th April at 2pm at Queen's College as a show of solidarity to the India Against Corruption campaign, and to make a committment to see this process through to the end. The success of the first step of the campaign only increases the responsibility on civil society, and as young citizens the onus lies on us to be informed, aware and responsive to the content of this important bill.
The collective view of the gathering will then be summarised and incorporated in the letters addressed to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India and Anna Hazare. If you are unable to attend but would like to raise any points or express any views, write to Apoorva before Sunday 11:00 hrs.
At the meeting, we will debate:
- What does the Lokpal Bill propose
- How is it different from the Government proposed Lokpal Bill
- What are the merits and de-merits of each of these versions of the Bill, and what would be the best aspects to adopt.
- How can the implementation of the institution of Lokpal be made as transparent, accountable and effective as possible.
08/04/11 CUIS Supports India Against Corruption
As modern India rises unanimously in an unprecedented show of solidarity in its Satyagraha against corruption, we call upon you to join Cambridge University India Society's voice in support of India Against Corruption.
We are callingfor a day of peaceful fast observed in favour of this important campaign. Join us in spirit by observing a day long FAST on Sunday 10th April 2011.
If you are in Cambridge, ATTEND a meeting between 2pm and 4pm, Queen's College Bar as a show of solidarity to the India Against Corruption campaign. There will be
- an open discussion about the Campaign and its demands on behalf of the nation and
- a debate on the relative merits and de-merits of the Government proposed Lokpal Bill and the people backed Jan Lokpal Bill.
Please read more to find out how you can join us in making this worthwhile stand.
