Fisher House

Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy

Welcome to Fisher House

Welcome to the website of Fisher House, the Catholic Chaplaincy to the University of Cambridge.

Fr Kevin, Sr Ann and Fr Mark.

The chaplaincy team at Fisher House is Mgr Mark Langham, Fr Kevin Grove, Sr Ann Swailes.

Mgr Mark Langham

I am a native of London, and a priest of Westminster Diocese, who came up to Cambridge to study Classics (and later history) in 1979. Ordained in 1990, I have worked in Bayswater parish (where I carried a three-metre puppet on my shoulders during the Notting Hill Carnival), and at Westminster Cathedral (where things were slightly more sedate). Most recently, I have been in Rome working at the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, and retain a great interest in ecumenism.

Sr Ann Swailes

Originally from Devon, I studied English and Theology at Oxford, where I was received into the Catholic Church in 1996. I live in a small community of Dominican Sisters in the Huntingdon Road, and combine my work at Fisher House with lecturing in Theology at Blackfriars, Oxford. In my (occasional!) spare time, I enjoy choral singing, swimming, and cooking and eating international food.

Fr Kevin Grove

I grew up in rural Montana in the United States. After university, where I read history, philosophy, and English literature, I joined the Congregation of the Holy Cross, a religious order that works in Catholic education. My seminary formation took place at Moreau Seminary in the University of Notre Dame. I have been ordained three years and came to Cambridge to study for a doctorate in philosophical theology. In addition to theology (Augustine and memory), my interests include running, American football, Gustav Mahler, and good coffee.

Come and find us!

The Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy was founded in 1895, and has been at Fisher House since 1924. Centrally located, just off the Market Place, the chaplaincy comprises a core of ancient buildings, a large and beautiful church recently refurbished, a spacious room for gatherings with a kitchen and bar, a well-stocked library, and a roof terrace.

As well as daily Mass, Fisher House hosts a wide range of activities, from discussion groups and lectures to social events. Lunch is available every day during term time, and you will meet here people from every College and discipline, junior and senior.

Do feel free to speak to the chaplains at any time our contact details are given on the website, or come and find us at Fisher House. The Chaplaincy is warm and hospitable, a place where your faith will be nourished, nurtured and encouraged. We look forward to seeing you.
