The History of Fisher House
The Cambridge University Catholic Chaplaincy, more popularly known as Fisher House, was founded by papal indult in 1895, when Catholics were allowed once more to read for degrees at Oxford and Cambridge. Since 1924 Fisher House, a former inn (built c.1600), has been its home.
It is open every day for students from early morning until late evening, hosting many social and academic events as well as offering a large reference library of theological and historical books. Its central location makes it an ideal location for meeting people outside college, becoming a second home for many students.
The Fisher Society is the student-run society of Fisher House. Catholic students and those who regularly attend Mass at Fisher House are automatically members of the Fisher Society, and anybody else is welcome to join the events organised by the committee. The Fisher Society's events include an annual dinner and garden party, themed parties and frequent ceilidhs.
