Conversation between two Emma CU members, (one with a brummy accent) in summer 2006:
- So, what you doing the few days before you return to Emma for the autumn?
- I'm going on the Emmanuel/Gonville and Caius College Christian Union Houseparty!
- Ah right. Hang on, Houseparty?
- Houseparty is when us Christian Union folks from Emma and Caius get together to hear some talks from the Bible, have small group
Bible studies and encourage one another for the year ahead by thinking and praying about what will be doing. Our speaker this year is
Nick Tucker, a minister from Hannah's home church up North. (Hannah is one of the Caius reps). You may recognise him if you were
at last year's houseparty.
- Sounds cool. Where, when, and how much is it?
- Location: Green Hedges, 15 Augusta Street, Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8LB
Date: The Tuesday (afternoon) before term starts to the Friday (morning) before term starts
Cost: £50 (Cheques Payable to 'Emmanuel College Christian Union', and the reps appreciate them posted to them beforehand)
- Sheringham!? How do I get there?
- If you're driving, go to King's Lynn via the M11, then the A10 from the South or via the A1, then A17 from the north. Then take the
A148 to Cromer, taking the turning to Sheringham, just before Cromer. Go straight over the 1st small roundabout into town. You'll
reach a T-junction where there's a clock tower - turn left and then take the 1st right into Augusta Street. Greenhedges is no. 15 and
is near the end on the left. If you're catching the train, Sheringham is at the end of a line that starts in Norwich.
- I'm there! What do I need to bring?
- A cake of some sort; a Bible; a notebook & pen; a tea towel; your duvet cover, sheets, and 2 pillowcases (NO SLEEPING BAGS); clothes
you don't mind getting dirty/sandy; trainers; cagoule (by which I don't mean a 1930s French anti-communist group).
- Alright, what else may I want to bring?
- Other changes of clothes, implements with which you can brush your teeth, cameras for taking photos of your lovely reps.
- Lovely reps? [Awkward silence.] So ... er ... anything I should not bring under any circumstances, just so I know...?
- A sleeping bag, a gun, your pet cat, or indeed any animal (it isn't called 'mouseparty'!)
- Mouseparty? That's not funny. Anyway, where do I sign up?
- Contact the reps. Make sure you do if you're a fresher, because then you'll know loads of people and look really cool to the other freshers.
Emma CU exists to make Jesus Christ known to students in Emma.
