We are a mixed-voice choir of around 20 undergraduates
and graduates from Emmanuel College and other colleges within the University
of Cambridge. Our primary function is to sing the two weekly choral services
which are held in the Chapel of Emmanuel College, these being a Choral
Evensong at 6pm on Sundays and a Choral Eucharist at 6pm on Thursdays.
Both services enable us to explore the full range of the choral repertoire
to a high standard, from Renaissance motets to contemporary music.
There are no choral scholars in the choir - the choir
is entirely voluntary and Choral Exhibitions (including subsidised singing
lessons and other financial incentives) are offered after a post in the
choir has been awarded.

Other than the regular weekly services,
highlights from the last year:
- High-profile tour to sing at the Festival de México
- performances to be broadcast on American television
- Evensong at St Bartholomew the Great, London - the resting
place of Sir Walter Mildmay, Founder of Emmanuel College
- Evensong at Southwark Cathedral
- A week singing at St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin
- First performance of a new work, written for the choir
by Nimrod Borenstein
Recordings
The choir's most recent recording, with Priory Records,
was released toward the end of 2006. 'From Generation to Generation' pairs
renaissance and contemporary settings of well-known liturgical texts and
is available directly from Emmanuel College.
The choir has also recorded a number of other CDs, including
'Veni, Veni Emmanuel' (Christmas Carols from Emmanuel College) on ASV
(which can be ordered from Amazon here)
and 'The Choir of Emmanuel College, Cambridge' on Opera Omnium.
| "The
prize for this year's most engaging new Christmas selection from
one of the famous university choirs has to go to "Veni, Veni,
Emmanuel".
This is the appropriate title for the recording
debut of The Chapel Choir of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
The Advent carol Veni, Veni, Emmanuel also
opens a beautiful and carefully selected programme of 24 carols
that retells the Christmas story from the first announcement through
to the New Year (Britten's lovely piece). The choice spans the centuries
from the 1400s to the present day, and includes many popular favourites
such as Once in Royal David's city, Ding dong merrily on high, We
Three Kings of Orient are and an exquisite, guitar accompanied,
Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht! Among many other highlights are Berlioz'
enchanting Shepherds' Farewell, and John Rutter's luscious setting
of What sweeter music?
Under the musical directorship of Timothy
Prosser, the choir gives first-rate performances that will add to
its fast-growing reputation. An excellent addition to mid-price
White Line's Christmas list." |

". . . this is a particularly appealing
mid-priced collection, beautifully recorded" (Penguin Guide
