11/02: Emma II 2, Catz II 4

Shield, 2nd round

This was the biggest test the team would face all season – a second round Shield tie against Division 3 opponents in the shape of Catz II. Our lads gave their all and for the first 25 minutes were containing the steadily mounting Catz pressure, although we hardly created an opening in that time. Unfortunately the goal that had been coming came, the ball dropping in the area from a corner and rifled home from all of 5 yards.

To our credit our heads stayed up and we began to get into the game more. At half time the score was still 1-0 and the Emma boys felt a comeback was on the cards. However, Catz managed to score again and from 2-0 an upset never looked likely, and although Stitch's headed goal gave us some hope a tired defence conceded two more goals and a deluge of chances before Shaun restored soem respectability to the score 5 minutes from time.

The winning run over, then, but beaten honourably by a better side.
