29/1/03: Hills Road II 5, Emma II 0

The team arrived for the first game of 2003 in pouring rain and numbing cold, yet optomistic of the term ahead. The omens were not good when running out onto the field turned into wading through mud, and Hills Road, clearly used to playing in such conditions, had the better of the opening exchanges despite playing into the wind.

Emma never found any fluency in their game (probably mostly down to the surface) and it was no surprise when we went behind. 1-0 at half time, and half a match to play into the wind. Unfortunately our passing was no better in the second half, and the second Hills Road goal (direct from a corner, wind assisted) took it out of us. The Hills Road midfield ran riot leaving our defence with no chance as they frequently found themselves outnumbered, and our strikers with no service. The match ran away from us as one chance after another fell to the home strikers, three more of which were taken leaving a distinctly embarrassing blot on our season.

The end of an unbeaten league run, and some work to be done before Trinity II visit Wilberforce Road in February to get back to winning ways.
