1) The name of the Society shall be "The Cambridge University Wargaming Society"
2) The Society's aims shall be to help wargamers find others with a similar interest and be a medium through which games can be organised. It shall also be a centre for organising multi-player games, campaigns and gaming meetings. It shall also be an opening for people who are interested but have not played any wargames before. Wargames here means any tabletop strategy game.
3) Membership of the society shall be open to all members of the University of Cambridge and of Anglia Polytechnic University, and to any others who may apply to the Committee. There shall be an annual fee for membership which shall be fixed by the Committee. The Committee shall have the right to offer honorary membership (free) and life membership (for a fee) to any person as it sees fit. It shall not refuse an application for membership on the grounds of race, sex, sexuality, religion, political views, or views on Games Workshop. It may however expel any member for behaviour likely to bring the society into disrepute. All members shall have full and equal voting rights at society meetings as long as they remain members.
4) A General Meeting of the society shall be held each year in the first half of the Lent term, and deemed the Annual General Meeting (AGM.) In addition, the committee may declare Extraordinary General Meetings (EGMs) from time to time as they see fit. The time and venue of any General Meeting will be determined and publicised by the Committee at least ten days beforehand.
5) The Officers of the Society shall be elected at the AGM, and take office immediately. Nominations for the officerial posts must be submitted to the Secretary in writing or by e-mail at least three full days before the AGM. Any member of the Society may be nominated by two other members of the Society, and may stand for any or all of the posts. Where posts are contested, there will be hustings at the AGM. Votes shall be counted by two persons chosen at the AGM who are not candidates for officerial posts, and the results including number of votes cast shall be announced at the AGM. The election and count shall be conducted using single transferable vote in seperate ballots for each post. The three officers shall be President, Treasurer and Secretary, and elected in that order. Any candidate elected to office is deemed to have stood down as a candidate for any other post in that election.
6) The Committee shall be the governing body of the society, and shall consist of the three elected officers, and anyone else they may choose to co-opt at their discretion. Such co-opted members may or may not be given officerial titles at the discretion of the committee. All Committee members shall hold office only until the next AGM. Should a vacancy arise in an elected post, the committee may co-opt a replacement provided that no challenge is brought by any member of the society, in which case a by-election must be held at an EGM called for the purpose of resolving the vacancy.
7) A Senior Treasurer shall be appointed by the Committee each year to audit the Society's books.
8) Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed by any two members of the Society, and must be submitted to the secretary in writing. This Constitution can only be ammended at an AGM or EGM. No vote on a constitutional ammendment shall be valid unless at least one quarter of the Society's membership (of those members residing in or near Cambridge at the time) is present at the meeting, except that if a constitutional ammendment is unresolved at an AGM due to lack of attendance, a further EGM may be called within two weeks to determine the issue, at which that specific ammendment may be validly voted upon, regardless of the attendance.
9) A picture of Edward Harman as seen in White Dwarf shall be affixed to the Constitution as a warning to future generations of the perils of playing Games Workshop games and losing.
10) Nicholas Sturge shall hold for life the title of 'Founder and Absolute and Unlimited Primarch of the Wargaming Society.
