Constitution

  1. The name of the society shall be: Cambridge University Veterinary Zoological Society.
  2. The society's aims shall be to hold and promote talks and events of a veterinary and/or zoological content to interested parties; whether members or non-members.
  3. Membership will be extended to all members of the University and any others who apply to the committee. An annual fee will be payable for membership. This fee will be fixed by the committee. The committee shall not refuse applications on grounds of race, sex, sexuality, age, religion or political views. It may expel any member whose conduct is likely to bring the society into disrepute. All members shall have full voting rights at society meetings.
  4. Society meetings: Ordinary meetings shall be held weekly/fortnightly as the committee sees fit. The AGM shall be held each year at the time of the committee elections.
  5. The committee shall be elected in the month of February each year. Nominations shall be entered on posters advertising positions one week prior to the AGM. If any position is contested, society members shall be asked to vote. The committee may, at its discretion co-opt additional committee members to itself where it perceives the need, or to fill vacancies which may arise.
  6. The committee shall consist of:
    • President
    • Vice President
    • Secretary
    • Honorary Secretary
    • Treasurer
    • Year Representatives (3)
  7. A Senior Treasurer shall be appointed by the committee to audit the society's books.
  8. Amendments to the constitution may be proposed by any six members of the society, and must be submitted to the President in writing. The constitution may only be amended at the AGM. No vote on a constitutional amendment shall be valid unless one quarter of the society's membership is present at the meeting.
