Having beaten this team in the most recent BUSA pool clash, the Blues knew that they would have a match on their hands in the opening game of the tournament. Starting with Veronica, Alison, Nadia, Anne, Fola and Cyndee, the Blues were on form from the start. Veronica's consistent serve was proving tricky for the Nottingham team to make an attack from, and the resulting free-ball returns were killed by Nadia, Cyndee and Alison, resulting in a commanding 5-0 lead. In the middle of the set the Nottingham team got their act together and were helped by Blues serve errors, but long rallies were eventually taken by Cambridge to take the first set easily.
Changing Nadia for Fiona and Cyndee for Kelly, the Blues again stormed away to a good lead in set two. Veronica pounded serve after serve into the Nottingham receive unit, with Anne tidying up any loose balls for the Blues. Jomana replaced Veronica for the second half of the set. After adjusting the pass for their new setter, Cambridge took the match 2-0, Anne serving the final point with an ace.
