***Introduction to the Men's Blues ***

The 2001-2 season will go down as the most successful in the history of Cambridge volleyball, with the Men's Blues volleyball team staking a claim to be one of best sports teams in the history of the University. With wins in the Student Cup, BUSA Championships and Varsity match, and representation of UK champions at EUSA Finals, this season can only be equalled.
In the 2005-6 season, the Men's Blues will be looking to develop a strong squad. With players gaining experience in the Cambridge Div1 NVL team, coach Jean Jacquet hopes to challenge for top University honours again this season.

Next Men's Blues squad event is on Sat 31st May 2008:  [more in Calendar]

***Men Take Silver at BUSA Finals ***

The Cambridge men defeated Manchester in their semifinal match before losing a close final to Sheffield Hallam, to take 2nd place in Britain.

***Men Through to BUSA Finals ***

In a draw straight out of A Confederacy of Dunces, Cambridge were drawn against ULU, two top teams with title hopes. A scrappy match did not see the best of either side, but the Blues prevailed 3-1 after a shaky start.

***2008 Varsity Matches ***

Both Blues teams travelled to Iffley Road for the 2008 Varsity matches. The Men were up first and defended their run of past victories with little opposition from the Oxford men. The Women were ranked as underdogs, but fought to a 2-1 lead, eventually succumbing 2-3 after a 5 set thriller.

***2008 BUSA Knockout Round Draw ***

The next stage of the BUSA Championship competition for 2007-8 has been posted today. The Blues men have a tough home challenge against London, but with home advantage, after winning the Midlands 1A division. The Blues women posted a disappointing 5th place in the league and so did not get to the knockout stages, but did just avoid relegation into Tier 2. Full draw.... (first team home) [More...]

***Women continue to slide, Men back on track ***

The Cambridge girls were forced to travel to Nottingham with a heavily depleted side, work commitments adding to injuries to preclude the majority of the team for the early start time. A makeshift team battled bravely but fell in straight sets. The Men's Blues were not tested by a travel weary Brookes side, and held their home court easily.

***Blues lose out to Loughborough ***

The men's blues were dealt their first loss of the season by Loughborough, who are the other serious contendors for the Midland's title. Without taking anything away from the visitors, the Blues will be disappointed by their preformance, and eager to improve in the return fixture. Early in the days, the Blue's Women also lost out, bring their record to 2-2.

***Trick or Treat at Iffley Road ***

The joint Halloween fixture against the Dark Side didn't see the girls get any treats from Oxford, so the men's tricks in return including smashing balls instead of pumpkins. Scary stuff.

***Double Victory for Blues ***

Both Cambridge Blues sides extended their records to 2-0 with comfortable straight set victories. The Men travelled to Nottingham to play a slightly injury depleted squad, and were home in time to watch their ladies send Warwick packing.

***Blues Positive Start ***

Both Blues teams posted wins for their first BUSA matches of the 07-08 season. The Women's team eventually beat Birmingham after a tight fifth set, the visitors battling back from two sets down. The Men had an easier visit to Warwick, winning in straight sets.

***Blues Reprise Dutch Tour ***

The Cambridge Blues Men were invited back to the Heineken Dutch Student Championships (Hajraa), held in Eindhoven, and were eager to improve upon their less than stellar performance the previous year. Although the Dutch contingent of the Blues was not in attendance, Dalmaso and Willis returned to the squad, and guest coach Carrie Koen took the team to an impressive 8th place finish in the top division.

***Cambridge Success at Beach Student Cup ***

The 2nd EVA Beach Student Cup was held in Brighton, and despite exam pressure, the Cambridge Blues entered into the Men's and Women's Competitions, as well as the Mixed Fours. Shaffery and MacIntyre earned a 5th place Women's finish with their quarterfinal appearance, while Sarkozy and Chalupnik placed 9th in the Men's division. Together, however, the four were unbeatable, taking the Mixed Bracket without dropping a set, and thus claiming Cambridge University's first ever Beach Volleyball Trophy! [Full Results]

***OxBridge Dominates Home Nations ***

Cambridge and Oxford were invited as a joint team to the Home Nations tournament, held in Manchester. The weekend was as action packed as it was enjoyable, with the 'OxBridge' team making the most of the event, finding new friends amoungst the international crowd, in the true spirit of the competition. [Full Results]

***Varsity Split ***

Saturday saw two competative Varsity matches. The Cambridge girls would begin strongly, and would go up 2-0 behind an inspired defensive performance. Unfortunately, Oxford leveled the match 2-2 and narrowly edged the home side in a close decider. The Cambridge men also jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Oxford would rally back to take the next set, but it would go no further - Cambridge never looked back in the fourth, and captured the match 3-1.

***Men Complete Away Sweep ***

The Cambridge Men's Blues travelled to Nottingham Trent for their final away fixture of the BUSA Qualifying Campaign, and left with a convincing 3-0 victory. Oddly, Cambridge were drawn away for their first 5 matches, and play the remaining 5 at home, yet once again the Blues proved too much for their opposition. This match saw some records broken, firstly the first time Cambridge has won all five away matches, and secondly for the single match ace record being broken by Tjonnie Li.
