Here a fellow economist Claire Nichols started the Girton Volleyball club and Maria had no excuse not to start playing. It turned out she quite liked it. In her second year she did not appreciate her skills enough to go to the University trials, but Claire was by now the captain of UCCW and when struggling for numbers turned to Maria again. She happily agreed to train and play with them and has progressed so far, that now she is a part of the Women's Blues team as well as UCCW.
