Asha Bayliss was crowned 2009 FIG B senior national trampoline champion on Sunday. Qualifying in first place after the Saturday preliminaries, Asha was the last bouncer to compete in the zero-start final. Despite taking a nerve-wracking amount of time before commencing her preliminary bounces, she performed a very well controlled routine to take the senior FIG B championship with a final score of 32.2.
Here is Asha's final routine:
Cambridge's other representative at nationals, also in FIG B senior women, was Kate Bramall. Kate bounced well, completing both routines, and finished in 17th - a good result for her first senior nationals.
With Claire Wright performing for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, the women's FIG A title was up for grabs. Perennial runner-up, Jamie Moore was unable to repeat her form of previous years, finishing in 5th. The title was taken by Kat Driscoll of Apollo TC with a final score of 35.7. Mandy Parker and Emma Smith filled the other podium places.
In the men's FIG A, James Higgins of Northampton TC easily won his 3rd national championship in a row with a score of 38.7. Team mate Steve Walsh was 2nd and Nick Joyce of Edgbarrow finished 3rd.
