About the Club
Trampolining
is the only sport which positively encourages you to spend as
much time on a bed as possible - jumping up and down on it at
that! If you enjoyed those bouncy castles when you were
younger, want to keep fit, have a slightly crazy streak and have
a desire to throw yourself about in all directions, or just want
a sport that's a little bit different, then trampolining is for
you. Trampolining involves performing various acrobatic
tricks which are made up of twists and somersaults. Tricks
can be as simple as a shaped jump or as complex as a multiple
twisting, multiple somersault (at the very top level!).
CUTC has three weekly training sessions held
at the Leys School. All sessions have British Gymnastics qualified
coaches and all the necessary safety
equipment. The sessions are quite laid back and cater for everyone;
from complete beginners to those who want to represent their university
in competitions. The club is fully
insured and all of our full members have additional personal accident
insurance.
There
is no pressure on people to compete but, for those who want to,
CUTC enters teams in lots of major competitions throughout the
year. The most prestigious of these are the BUSA
finals and, of course, that old rivalry match against Oxford;
Varsity. Other competitions
include those run by other universities such as Warwick and Manchester.
We also run an annual friendly competition with UEA and York and
hold Cuppers in January where any member of the club can compete
for their college. We have recently become members of our national
governing body, British Gymnastics, allowing us to enter other
regional competitions.
In
addition to all this bouncing, CUTC is an extremely social club.
Regular pub meets take place after sessions and we have several
formal halls throughout the year. Many competitions have socials
attached to them and these are always a great laugh, even if bouncing
with a hangover the next morning is often rather painful on the
old head! The social highlights of the year come in the form of
the annual May Week garden party and the night punting trip to
Grantchester, all of which seem to produce lots of embarrassing
drunken photos.
