What is CUSPOMMS?

Hilbert Brouwer

What are we?

CUSPOMMS is the Cambridge University Society for the Philosophy of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences. Its present incarnation was started in the autumn of 2002.

What do we do?

We run seminars on the philosophy of maths.

Where?

In The Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Clarkson Road, Cambridge. Usually in Meeting Room 3.

When?

Generally speaking, on Friday afternoons at fortnightly intervals during termtime, but this may vary so check this website or email soc-pomms-request@lists.cam.ac.uk to get on our mailing list. The seminars start at 2pm, and run for about an hour and a half (not including the extended debate over tea afterwards).

Who can come?

Anybody! Our regulars range from undergraduates to Fields medallists, from across a wide range of departments and specialities, and we don't assume a high level of technical knowledge in either maths or philosophy. Our speakers so far have come from the Maths, Philosophy, HPS and Physics departments, and we are keen to extend this list.
