Historic Reviews

2002-03 Season

St. John's, Smith Square, London Children of the Revolution: CUSO receives rave review in Varsity following Michaelmas concert in St. John's, Smith Square, London. "Debussy's Prelude... fantastically fluid and sinuous under the baton of Geoffrey Paterson... Tau's [pianist's] performance was extremely sensitive and understated, which was refreshing in comparison to many self-serving soloists... The orchestra was obviously having a fabulous time, and this was transmitted to the audience..."

2001-02 Season

Vigado Concert Hall, Budapest CUSO is back in Cambridge following an exciting summer tour of Hungary, musical highlights including Vaughan Williams' Symphony no. 3 'Pastoral', Beethoven's Symphony no. 7 and the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto. Our performances received high acclaim: eight encores and a standing ovation over four nights!

CUSO storms London! On Friday 22nd February, CUSO performed in St John's, Smith Square, to great critical acclaim. "A real treat to watch... a stunning performance... exceptional... Every section worked together to produce a rich sound without seeming challenged by the work. Definitely one to watch out for in the future." (Varsity, 1 Mar). CUSO is hoping for an equally impressive concert when we return to Cambridge on Friday 8th March.

"One of the best concerts I have ever heard in Cambridge" - Easter 2002

CUSO's very first May Week concert achieved great acclaim on Thursday 20th June, when we performed a selection of light classics, including Star Wars and 'Last Night of the Proms', in the beautiful surroundings of Trinity College fellow's gardens. Despite uncertain weather, a large audience arrived, and in the end the heat had some gents removing dinner jackets! With copious amounts of strawberries and Pimms available, and one lucky audience member taking home a brand new ARCAM CD player (kindly donated by our sponsors), this was surely one of the very best afternoons in May Week.
