Week 4 Meeting: Sunday, 7:30, 12/2/12, Sidney Sussex: Alien Invaders

Meeting will be at 7.30pm at Sidney Sussex, as usual, meeting outside the p'lodge as ever.

The meeting will be a normal one again on Sunday, the topic "Alien Invaders". Why do they invade? What do they have to gain? Why do they never think to do biological research before doing so? (And if they do, why the obsession with anal probing of American hicks?) Should we invade back? All this and much else may well be answered, discussed or possibly forgotten. Meet as usual outside the p'lodge of Sidney Sussex at 7.30pm.

Pub: Wednesday, 7:30, 8/2/12, Bath House

As usual, CUSFS pub tomorrow evening at 7.30pm but this week, instead of trying the Anchor, finding it full and moving to the Bath House, we're just going to go to the Bath House. It saves unnecessary wandering in the cold, even if the food isn't quite as good. It's on Bene't Street, if you've never been there.(I should be there this time; mine is 07825446490).

CUSFS Lunch: Friday, 12:45pm

Filip has a nicely central room to have it in and it can be found as follows:
"It's E10 New Court. Follow Trinity Lane until the bend and cheerfully ignore the "college closed" sign. Go straight, under the arch, to a court with a tree in the middle. E staircase is at the far left corner, my room is on the top floor."
It costs £2 for a pleasant lunch with pleasant conversation (well... CUSFS conversation anyway ^^) and is thoroughly worth going to, even if you don't finish lectures until 1pm. On which note, it's at 12.45pm this week, so you wouldn't even be very late. Also, here is Filip's number, in case you get lost in Trinity: 07580099752.

Library access

We have a library in the New Museums site (for a map, look here). Here is its catalogue. Our Glorious Lord Librarian James is in the library at fairly regular intervals to let people browse, or you can usually persuade him to bring something for you. On Friday (just after CUSFS lunch, in fact, at 2pm) we will also be opening the library for the first time this term. Alas, our lovely librarian is busy, so I shall be functioning as the emergency librarian hologram (I'll wear a hat, to make it more convincing). Since many of you may not yet have visited the library, I propose we meet by the entrance to the CSL, the gates of which are opposite the Bathhouse (pub) on Bene't Street (just off King's Parade... the one with the Corpus Clock on the corner). Map
I shall have my 'phone on me, so call if you get lost (07825446490).

Saturday November 5th

On Saturday, there's some sort of annual thing where people burn stuff and explode things in the sky. I'm sure you know the one... No? Either way, every year, CUSFS meet up to go to see the fireworks on Midsummer Common, then head off somewhere to watch a film (traditionally V for Vendetta, but maybe not this year). I propose we meet at 6.45pm on Magdalene bridge (Bridge Street). Again, I will have my 'phone with me if anyone gets lost of whatever.

However, we do not have a room in which we may watch the film, whatever it may be. If you have a handy common room or somesuch which might be commandeered for this, please email me to let me know as soon as possible. On my email address rather than replying to the list, preferably (rmp51).

Term plans

CUSFS (and later Jómsborg the New) has been bringing literary discussion of Science Fiction and Fantasy to students and the general public in Cambridge since 1963. Every week during University Full Term we have a discussion on Sunday evenings, be it on an author, a theme, or the latest bizarre theory explaining why there's nothing good on TV anymore. We tend to alternate between Science Fiction discussions and Fantasy discussions (which, until 1996, were the exclusive preserve of Jómsborg).
