JONATHAN PARRY - "The Anthropologist's Assistant - A Story"

Ajay TG, widely recognized film maker, journalist and human rights activist was arrested by the Chhattisgarh police in Raipur on 4 May 2008. He had just made a short film about Dr. Binayak Sen, a medical doctor who has devoted himself to caring for adivasis (tribal peoples) and poor mine workers in the area. Dr Sen was himself arrested in May last year for having protested against the murder of adivasis by the state sponsored "Salwar Jadum" militia in Chhattisgarh. Jonathan Parry is coming to CUSAS to present the film and story of Ajay and to discuss the issues raised when the anthropologist's research assistant is arrested.

Jonathan Parry is an internationally acclaimed anthropologist and Professor of Social Anthropology at the LSE.
