Programme

We usually run at least one event a week during Cambridge Full Term, and often a few trips away during the holidays. The chair emails out what’s going on each week, and some termcards can be found here. For the most up to date information, sign up to our mailing list.

Broadly, our programme is split into two parts – social and adventurous. On the social side, recent events have included

  • board games evenings,
  • campfires,
  • craft nights,
  • movie nights,
  • punting practice, in preparation for punt joust!

As is common with Cambridge societies, we host an annual dinner during Lent Term. It’s a black tie, several course meal in one of the colleges or a local restaurant. It’s also when we give out plenty of awards for antics over the past year!

At the end of Michaelmas Term, we also have a progressive meal, during which we have dinner, eating at a different person’s house/room for each course!

Ball. This is organised by a SSAGO group in the spring, usually in April. It’s a black tie ball (including food) and usually with a variety of ticket options, some including hotel rooms. Details appear on www.ssago.org.uk at the appropriate time. In 2012 ball was hosted by CUSAGC!

Our adventerous programme begins very early in Michaelmas Term, with our Fresher’s hike. This is a fairly relaxed stroll around Cambridgeshire and is a fantastic opportunity to discover a little more about the club (especially if you can’t make it to our squash), make some new friends and chalk up your first CUSAGC adventurous activity – even if it is a gentle one! Haven’t brought walking kit to Cambridge? No problem! This will be a gentle walk, not a yomp, somewhere in East Anglia (a region not known for its rugged countryside! Still, there’s plenty to see (including a lot of sky) and you won’t need boots if you don’t have them… decent trainers, waterproofs and your lunch will be all you need.

Recent adventurous activities have included

  • pioneering,
  • archery,
  • hiking,
  • bouldering,
  • SSAGO Rallies (CUSAGC hosted summer rally 2018!),
  • and various trips away.

Additional Info

Membership

To come on some adventurous activities, you must be a paid-up member of CUSAGC, to cover insurance requirements and to ensure we have the necessary health and contact information. To join, visit the joining page.

Adult Groups in Adventurous Activities

As affiliated members of the Scout Association (via SSAGO), we follow the rules for adventurous activities set down in the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Association.

As SSAGO (and therefore CUSAGC) are affiliated with both Scouting and Guiding (although the insurance is with Scout Insurance Services/Unity), the ‘lowest common denominator’ approach is used, particularly for banned activities (which therefore include bungee jumping, paintballing etc.). CUSAGC must therefore follow this policy. Our insurance covers our members for organised Scout Network events, and vice versa, as well as our own. More details are on the resources page of the SSAGO website, or the AAC or SSAGO rep can answer any queries.
