A MESSAGE FROM OUR PATRON, DESMOND TUTU

"It is human nature, I suppose, to forget so easily and quickly.

In the days of Bantu education only a few beacons of light relieved the darkness. St Mark's College in Jane Furse in rural Northern Province was a particularly bright beacon. In those turbulent days St Mark's provided an education to our children not possible in any government school. However St Mark's not only provided an excellent education it also strove to turn out well-rounded individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society. Pupils, now doctors, engineers and other professionals, are living proof of this fact.

But quality education is now available to everybody and Jane Furse is far away in the rural Northern Province. So it is easy to forget what St Mark's stood for and still stands for. We shall however, not allow people to forget.

St Mark's has a duty to be a centre for excellence in Jane Furse and the surrounding areas, not only because of its history, but also because its has the infrastructure and the people to do so. We want to extend our outreach programmes but to do so we have to strengthen our resources, human, financial and otherwise.

To achieve our goals we need your assistance. Our sincere wish is that we shall receive generously from all our existing and future friends to ensure that the light of St Mark's will shine brightly in future.

St Mark's is challenging the future, will you join this challenge?

Thank you and God Bless."
