Here is what an alumnus recently said with regard to the unit...

My connections to the Royal Navy were relatively limited, and as a then Air Cadet I was considering joining the UAS, and had little knowledge of the role and function of the Royal Navy.

After discovering that the UAS was a production line for pilots (of which I had no intention of becoming), I found out about the existence of the URNU through an advertisement in my pigeon hole, and joined.  CURNU offered an interesting balance of activities: from ship handling, to flying, shooting, and a strong social side.

On leaving Cambridge, I joined another URNU whilst studying for my postgraduate degree.  I enjoyed the URNU experience so much that I am now an Officer in the Royal Naval Reserve, something I would not have previously considered.

I initially trained as a Commercial Barrister, and am informed that my URNU experience was looked upon highly favourably in the recruitment process.  My involvement with the URNU and the RNR has meant that I can show to employers that I have skills, leadership, and teamwork training and experience, that might not otherwise be available to someone of my age and seniority.
