Cambridge University Royal Naval Unit offers the unique opportunity to gain an excellent insight into the Royal Navy and the armed forces as a whole. CURNU includes students from the University of Cambridge, the University of East Anglia and Anglia Ruskin University.

We offer members a mix of shore-based and sea-borne training focusing on professional subjects including navigation, seamanship and ship handling but which also cover general leadership and public speaking skills among others. Sea-borne training is conducted on board our own fast patrol craft, HMS TRUMPETER, (based in Ipswich), with weekend trips during term and 12-14 day deployments to UK and European ports during Easter and Summer vacations.

We also offer the opportunity to achieve qualifications and CV coverage that is rare amongst graduates. Opportunities exist for students to visit and spend time in affiliated submarines and larger warships as well as taking part in a wide range of activities including flying acquaints and adventurous training.

The unit has an active and varied social programme, which includes formal service dinners, a cocktail party as well as many informal mess functions.
