Writtle Match Report
Bright and early on the chilly morning of the 23rd of November the CUET 2nd team headed to Writtle College for their first BUCS match of the season. The league remains unchanged this year with CUET facing Writttle College, University of East Anglia and University of Essex. Following the typically confusing horse draw, first up in dressage was Hattie Allison (Pembroke) on a huge grey, producing a surprisingly active and well connected test to finish on zero penalties – beating the other three riders on the same horse. Next up Emily Hopgood (Emmanuel) drew a gangly thoroughbred which settled through the day and was just pipped by the home team to finish on four penalties. Rosie Knowles (Newnham) rode an accurate and active test to gain the best score on her stocky cob; last but not least Annabelle Molyneux (St John’s) on a flashy dressage horse pulled out the test of the day to also finish on zero penalties. After the dressage Cambridge sit comfortably in first place with the nearest team over 20 points behind. On to the jumping and after an eventful showing of the horses by the hosts everyone produced beautiful clear rounds with Rosie, Emily and Annabelle finishing first on their horses and Hattie gaining a few unlucky penalties. With Snapchat stories updated and much chocolate consumed the scoring was eventually sorted with Cambridge in first, the hosts Writtle in second, Essex third and UEA fourth. Individual placings saw a Cambridge 1,2,3 of Annabelle, Rosie and Emily respectively with Hattie finishing in 7th. Onwards and upwards to our home match in January where we can hopefully keep up this winning streak! Special mention to our driver, mentor and general calming(ish) influence Kate Branley (CURC president) – we couldn’t have done it without you!
