The first team out-performed all expectations today as they won the regional BUCS competition at Warwickshire College on 2nd April 2014, meaning that Cambridge have qualified for the National finals at Hartpury College in June. A special congratulations to Ollie and Ginny, who were placed 5th and 6th individually. Today proved very exciting with some of the best dressage horses we have used for a BUCS competition. The dressage test was very technical, ensuring that judges could differentiate between closely matched riders. Ginny and Steph both performed excellent tests and achieved top marks on their respective horses. Following the dressage phase Cambridge were in the lead on 25.5 penalties, Birmingham were 2nd on 54.5 and Oxford Brookes last on 63.5.
The jump horses were a little quirky so rounds had to be ridden considerately to achieve good marks. Ollie was the only light blue to achieve 0 penalties in this phase but Alice wasn’t far behind with only 1 penalty. Birmingham came out on top in the jumping, finishing on 19 penalties to Cambridge’s 25 and Brookes again behind with 67.5. This meant at the end of the day Cambridge won with 50.5 penalties, Birmingham 2nd with 73.5, and Brookes last on 130.5.
This was a fabulous day out for all involved, thanks to the venue, organisers and our loyal supporters, Lottie and Bridget.
