Report by Ginny Fellows

The first BUCS match of the year for the Cambridge First Equestrian team took place at Hilltop on the 27th November 2013. Under ‘skip’ Alice Watson’s meticulous organisation and bounding enthusiasm, the team of ‘skip’, Steph Willis, Clark Glasgow and Ginny Fellows competed against teams from Writtle, Essex and UEA. The standard of riding in both the dressage and show jumping phases was high all round, making for some close final scores. All four Cambridge competitors jumped clear, with Cambridge taking the top three places in the show jumping phase.

Steph Willis took 4th individually, despite her horse stopping for a cheeky toilet break mid-dressage test. Cambridge came first overall, closely followed by Essex in 2nd place – a huge achievement all round! Captain Alice deserves serious credit for managing to find a new judge at 18 hours notice, while keeping a calm outlook and preparing all the lunches for the competitors. A big thank you also to Sharon and her team at Hilltop. We look forward to continuing the season as we started!
