Claire Small has written the following report about the British University and Colleges Sport match attended by the team on November 8th, 2012.
A home match of soggy jodhpurs, kamikaze-falls and a hoard of TOWIE puns saw the BUCS equestrian league off to a solid start for the Cambridge Equestrian team. On 8th November, Cambridge went head to head with UEA, Essex and Writtle in 2 heatedly competitive rounds of dressage and show jumping. The Cambridge team of Claire Small, Nicola Heckeberg, Alice Simon and Fiona Macklin secured 2nd place to begin the season, producing some impressive, faultless scores in both phases. Writtle took first place by marginal points. Despite the caning disappointment of not making a clean sweep on home turf, watching rivals being dumped headlong at speed into muddy puddles by ponies with serious jump-aversions never fails to entertain. Stakes have been set high, and the rest of the league promises to be just as exciting, with Cambridge determined not to be outdone again. Eyes are now set on international success, with the EDHEC Jumping competition in Lille looming at the beginning of February (which also holds the exciting prospect of a pre-varsity whipping of the Oxford team…), so the season looks promising!
