Only the top 4 riders in the University get to compete against teams from other Universities; however CURC Club riders are encouraged to come to the internal competitions throughout the year. The main events are the Showjumping Cuppers at the end of Michealmas term and Dressage Cuppers in Lent term.
There is also either a Gymkhana or Walk and Trot dressage competition for Novices and Beginners at Springhill. This is a good days fun and a chance for our new riders to have a first taste of competition and get their rosette collection started.
The Show Jumping and Dressage Cuppers are a chance for the different colleges to put teams together and prove their equestrian superiority in the face of Sharon’s courses and tests.
Not all our members, even some more advanced riders, will have had much opportunity to compete before coming to Cambridge. Call it a trial run or just a fun day out, but we hold test and course riding clinics on Sundays in Michealmas and Lent terms. These days will be a chance to put dressage and jumping lessons into the context of a course of fences or dressage test with coaching. There will be a competitive element to the days conclusion.
