Michaelmas Term Novice and Intermediate Team News
With new show jackets, matching club ties, gloves and whips, the CURNITs (Novice and Intermediate teams) made their way to Trent park equestrian centre in Enfield, London, to participate in their first team dressage competition. We had practiced our tests on horses and unmounted, with the novel approach of walking the test blindfolded ensuring that everyone knew their test, and with expert tuition from Fiona at Springhill and CUET captain Alice Strang-Steel members were rearing to go.
Our horses were randomly allocated, with a real mixture stepping out of the centres 100+ stables; Nancy’s ‘Large Marge’ was very large, Hettie’s very speedy and Constance’s Joe very slow! After a decent warm up, we each headed into the arena for the intro test, with all competitors doing very well. Out of 23 competitors, team members came 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th, (placings to Roland, Constance, Kirsty and Leanne) fantastic considering that all the other competitors were regular riders at the centre who knew the horses, and that for most of the team this was their first ever competition. Internally the averages saw the A team first (Leanne, Laura, Constance, Kirsty) with 64.72%, C team (Suzy, Ellie, Le Qin) second with 60.57% and B team (Roumen, Roland, Rosie, Tamsin, Nancy, Hettie) third with 60.47%
