"Roots creep underground everywhere and make a firm foundation. Shoots seem very weak but to reach the light they can break through brick walls. Imagine that the brick walls are all the problems we have inflicted on our planet. Hundreds and thousands of roots and shoots, hundreds and thousands of young people around the world, can break through these walls. You can change the world." Jane Goodall, UN Messenger of Peace.
R&S Cambridge
Cambridge Roots & Shoots was established in 2004 by students of the University of Cambridge who organized a visit of Jane Goodall including a charity event to raise funds for the Tchimpounga community education programme in the Congo.
Since then always more and more students are participating in local events and activities, both from University of Cambridge and from Anglia Ruskin University.
We are a group of friendly students who like to go out and make a change in the world! We work together to improve our local environment, promote animal welfare and to work toward a sustainable way of life. We are always looking for new people to join out projects and to help make a difference.
R&S worldwide
Founded by Dr. Jane Goodall (website www.janegoodall.org.uk) and a group of young people in Tanzania, the Roots & Shoots program inspires people of all ages to make a difference by becoming involved in their communities.
Each Roots & Shoots group plans and implements service-learning projects that promote care and concern for animals, the environment and the human community. There are over 7,500 Roots & Shoots Groups in 90 countries.
