RECENT NEWS Imperial Meeting 2007 Success CURA retained the Humphry trophy for Match Rifle after a very tight match against Oxford this year, with the leading team changing after the first range. Cambridge pulled away after taking the lead at the second range and the team won by 8 points. A great achievement by the students, and our thanks to their coaches: Alex Cargill Thompson, Dave Calvert and Julian Peck. The Chancellors' Challenge Trophy was also won again this year by CURA. The match proved to be less competitive than this year’s Humphry with CURA on top at all 3 ranges. The team shot solidly and was wind-coached carefully to victory, with both Andy Nowacki beating, and Peter Seebohm equaling the average score of the Great Britain team who shot concurrently under the same conditions. In the Universities Long Range match, Cambridge’s top four defeated the competing Universities from throughout the country shooting at both 900 and 100 yards, just 2 points ahead of London. Together with the short range scores from the Chancellors’, this places Cambridge as the top shooting university at present, winning also the BUSA Aggregate of the short and long range competitions. Peter Seebohm shot for Scotland in the home nations MR match, the ‘Elcho,’ in which Adam Mayers was also sub-coach for Wales. Rosanne Furniss and John Lindsay were both victorious for England in the Five Nations Match. There was also great individual success in the TR Imperial Meeting, particularly for Peter Seebohm who was amongst the top 100 firers in Bisley not only for his 69th position in the Grand Aggregate, but also for reaching and competing in the final stage of HM The Queen’s Prize. Rosanne Furniss reached the second stage of this prize, and both she and Peter reached the final stage of the St. George’s Competition, in which Peter Seebohm gained X-class. Furniss also came third in the Young Rifleman’s Aggregate for those new to the sport and 133rd in the Grand Aggregate of all firers.
