Dusk
till Dawn and The Oxford Cup With exams out of the way, five of us
made it up to Nottingham on Friday 5th for the £75 freezeout and
some juicy cash games. Sean ran pretty good at cash, as usual, crushing
the table with his hyper-aggressive style so much that people left the
table to get away from him! His successful night scooped him the middle
seat on the way back for most profit. James and Phil made it fairly
deep in the tourney, however neither ever really had a decent stack
throughout, and Phil busted a few places before the bubble while James
survived a bit longer, netting a decent £270 for 6th. Phil, who
seems to cover his poker losses with well-judged online betting
nowadays, also ran bad at cash and had the dubious honour of the front
seat on the way back. Thanks to George who got us there and back alive. Two days later saw Cambridge send a 13
strong team to Oxford for the 8th Oxford Cup. After a strong
performance last year, expectations were high, but one by one we busted
from the £20 rebuy tournament with nothing but a bad beat story.
We had no representatives on the final table, but well done to Camilla
and Dan for finishing 12th and 16th for £100 and £50
respectively. As the tournament emptied, the cash tables filled up;
Ben, Chen and George each donated a bit at the £1/£1 PLO
table, it was a mixed bag for the rest at the 10p/20p and 25p/50p
tables but there was no shortage of action around with some massive
pots.
First event of
the term took place Tuesday. Ken
Cheng took down the £20 freezeout for a tidy £120, though I
think even he'd admit that the cards were kind to him...

Committee members get to
heads up? Steady... Welcome back to the
first tournament of Lent! The £5 rebuy
tournament saw
tentative play in the first hour with only a few rebuys per table, but
with quite a few add ons at the break, leading to a healthy £320
prize
pool. Getting down to the final table, with the blinds were still
relatively low, it looked more like the regular cash game than the
final 8, with CUPokS president Heerpal Sahota and fellow committee
member Phil Ah-kin still going strong. Also joining were regulars
George Hickemt, Beinan Liu, Marco Orsini and Liam Mencel... Write up continues here.
Menage a trois This week welcomed the second freezeout tournament of term, with a lofty £12 entry. Pretty standard play was seen throughout the early stages of the tournament (or in other words, no one can remember anything really), and people were crawling the walls for a cigarette break before the final table began 8 handed...
