Final Score: Bath 4 - Cambridge Blues 12
Last Wednesday the Blues headed to Bath to play their final match before the league knock out stage. General excitement was brewing among certain members as it became evident that the England rugby team were training mere metres away from us, and that Brian Ashton was even hotter in the flesh. Putting this out of our minds, we focussed on the game in hand. We got off to a quick start with an excellent goal from Becky Hilbert nicely placed in the bottom left corner and a couple more beautifully accurate shots followed. However, soon the shots became far less effective, and we found ourselves further and further away from the 18 shot goal difference that we so desired. At half time we were well ahead, but it was evident that we were a far stronger team than we were showing. The second half began in a scrappy manner, and Bath scored twice more from crease rolls. But the Blues soon picked up again, and Adele Fauvet scored a beautiful goal from a carefully practised set move. We were banging in goal after goal before the final whistle, leaving the score a satisfying 12-4. Champagne lacrosse. The Blues finish the group stages Premier South champions, with 10 wins from 10 games, and a goal difference a staggering +90.
