The CUKBS aims to provide basic self-defence training, and to teach specialist kickboxing techniques with a view to competing at University and club level. We train in the style of American Kickboxing, which offers a workout that combines aerobics, cardiovascular and body toning, and is guaranteed to improve your general fitness and conditioning. Techniques used have evolved from other styles such as Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Muay Thai and Karate, resulting in a very simplified and practical martial art.

Our training sessions are run in association with the Cambridge Riverside Martial Arts (CARISMA), who provide our very skilled and experienced instructors. They are highly qualified and are insured, ensuring the technical development of the club and supervising the preparation of fighters. These training sessions consist of a one and a half hour class every Wednesday in the University term. Since most of you out there will be beginners, the first part of each class focuses on learning basic kickboxing techniques and improving fitness. We then move on to training "drills" with a partner, and we also provide an opportunity for light sparring for those who wish to do so. Also, our training sessions are geared such that our members can start training at any time throughout the year, and train as little or often as they want, and progress to whatever level they choose. Those wishing to join must be students of the University of Cambridge and we welcome members of both sexes.
