CUJS Michaelmas 2008

CUJS is a non-denominational, apolitical society that caters specifically to the needs of Jewish students, and to those interested in Jewish life, in and around Cambridge.

We are Robbie and Tilla, your Michaelmas presidents. Together with our committee we will be welcoming everyone, newly-arrived or Cambridge veterans, to a wealth of events to kick-start the year! From long-running favourites like 'Booze for Jews', through comedy night, poker night and Yiddish theatre, to fascinating panel debates and regular textual learning. Ensuring these are top quality events, we are privileged to be able to draw from a fantastic base of Cambridge professors and alumni. CUJS provides events to suit everybody and to help you find your niche.

Alongside our events, we run regular Shabbat and festival meals with great food and company, with this looking to be one of the best catered terms we’ve yet had! We also have a daily orthodox minyan, plus separate egalitarian services on Shabbat. If you would like more information on either services, you can sign up to the mailing list.

Michaelmas is the most exciting term of the year because even if you’re returning to Cambridge, a new year is a fresh start. In Michaelmas especially, CUJS is a community profoundly shaped by the people in it – and your involvement can help it become what you need and want it to be.

To find out more about this term’s committee and about what they’ve been working on for Michaelmas, please browse our website and use the sidebar on the left to navigate through the various committee positions.

Note: This year, the first teaching day of term starts on Yom Kippur. CUJS will be providing a pre-fast meal, and services will be held together with the resident Jewish community of Cambridge. Orthodox services will take place at the student centre and egalitarian services will take place at Beth Shalom. Concerned about arrangements for Yom Kippur? Contact our freshers reps.
