On October 30th, the Cambridge Blues Ice Hockey Club faced off against their hated dark-blue rivals, in what proved to be as close as last year’s nail biting varsity match. The game was severely delayed by poor ice conditions and did not get underway until well into the night. Cambridge came out strong, taking the lead after a spectacular end-to-end rush by assistant captain Luc St-Pierre. Oxford evened the score with a strange tip in, and then took the lead with another rubbish goal. The game was fraught with violence, with both teams, taking a large number of unnecessary penalties, which hurt the Light Blues more. Cambridge tied up the match with a goal from a shot from the slippery Ryan McGinley. The game remained tied until close to the end of the third, when the Dark Blues scored a dubious goal, reportedly kicked, to take the lead in the game which they would eventually win 3-2. The Light Blues were helped by the stellar and ninja-like goal tending of Carl Mazurek, and John Jenkin who was named man of the match.
