The Cambridge Blues ice hockey team stormed into Wales this past Sunday evening and roundly beat the University of Cardiff Redhawks 10-7 in a hard-fought match. The Blues received solid goaltending from Soohong Park who earned his first victory as a Blues starter and as a result earned "man of the match" honours. Park faced 47 shots over three periods of work and made several high-quality saves against an aggressive Cardiff squad who were searching for their second victory of the year.

Cardiff came out strong against the Blues in the first period, throwing a number of bone-crushing body checks. Cardiff skated hard whilst trying to capitalize on the fact that the Blues were playing their second game in three nights and had traveled four hours by bus to arrive at the match. The Blues struggled to find their skating legs early on and found themselves in trouble when defenceman Teale Phelps-Bondaroff and winger Owen Randlett took successive minor penalties for cross-checking and roughing, respectively. Cardiff jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead after the first five minutes of action as they continually drove the net and picked up loose rebounds.

The Blues rallied, however, and led the game 4-3 heading into the second period after goals by Graham Courtright, Dan Tavana, and Andrew Buddle. The rough play continued in the second period and Blues forward Taylor Burns was given a major penalty and game misconduct for fighting with a Cardiff player after a fierce battle in front of the net. Blues assistant captain and offensive leader Peter Morelli set up two of the first period goals and went on to score three goals himself while Tavana, Buddle, Kevin Musselman, and Adrian Camacho-Fielding added more offence as Cambridge took control of the game and held on for an impressive victory. The Blues will look to extend their winning ways in their next game, which takes place on Saturday November 21st when they face-off against Cardiff at Peterborough in a highly-anticipated rematch.
