The Cambridge Boundary RunClick here to see the list of runners who have entered. If you are going to just turn up on the day, please make sure you have added your name to our mailing list page. If your name is already there, please log in and refresh your details - the updated time stamp we will see will help us estimate numbers.
NewsWe have responded to feedback from last year that the Boundary Run was just too short... just short of a marathon that is. As a result, the boundary has been marginally stretched and our full Boundary Run is now a full marathon! The half Boundary Run remains a full half marathon, as it was last year. Race detailsDate: Sunday 2nd March How to get to the startIf you are driving, have a look at this Google Maps page. You can drag the marker labelled A to your preferred entry point to the city. If you are travelling by train, either get a taxi to the start (ask for the Next Generation Club, Coldham's Lane Business Park) or make the 1.6-mile journey on foot. If you leave the station, turn right, walk under the large red cycle/foot bridge, along Devonshire Road, turn right and walk along Mill Road, over the railway bridge, then at the end, walk straight past the pub 'The Brook' and continue down Brooklands. Take the small foot bridge immediately in front of you then continue down the path (over another railway) to arrive at Next Generation. A map is available. EntriesPostal entries have now closed. On-the-day registration will cost £7. Registration will be from 9.30am until 10.15am on the day. Please turn up in good time. Return bus trips for half-boundary runners cannot be guaranteed for on-the-day entrants (see buses below).
Buses (for half-boundary runners)As you can imagine, running half way around the boundary of Cambridge doesn't make a loop. Half Boundary Run entrants will finish at Coton village green, which is 4.9 miles from the start taking a direct route. Buses will be provided to take finishers back to the start. They will leave at approximately:
1hr 45mins Runners who do not think they can complete the course in under 2hr 30mins (roughly 11.5-minute miles) are asked to please arrange their own transport home. Half boundary runners are encouraged to enter in advance in order to guarantee their place on a bus. On the day entrants may of course have a bus ride if there is space and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, but we can't make promises as who knows how many people will come out to run if the sun is shining?! Questions? Please contact the Boundary Run Organiser, Laura Spence, by e-mail (les30@cam.ac.uk) if you have any questions. PosterClick on the poster below to download a PDF version!
RouteThe route for the 2008 Boundary Run is shown below. On the day, the route will be signposted, and all entrants will receive their own map and guide booklet with rain-proof cover. A Garmin course file (for those of you with a Forerunner 205/305) is also available. To use this, save this file, BR2008.tcx, (usually by right-clicking and then choosing Save Target As... or Save Link As...) then import this into Garmin Training Center. Go to File/Import/Courses, change the drop down box to 'Garmin Training Center Database Files (*.tcx)' then select the file you have just saved. Then press the 'Send To Device' button and send the course called BR2008. You may need to move your existing courses (if you have any) back to Training Center so you not exceed the memory of the unit. To use it, press the 'Menu' button on the Forerunner, then go to 'Training' then 'Courses', then choose the course, then press 'Do Course'. Press 'Start' as you cross the start line. You can then flip to the map by pressing the Menu key repeatedly. The up and down arrows will then adjust the scale. Please ensure you have the latest version of Training Center (3.3.2), the GPS chipset software (3.00) and the Forerunner unit software (2.80) before proceeding. These can be downloaded from Garmin's website at www.garmin.com.
If you have Google Earth installed you can download the route in KML format and zoom in for a closer look, or use the inline map below.
ElevationThis is the elevation of the course. The first hill is long but gives a fabulous view of the city. It's downhill after that! NOTE: The scale is deceptive as there aren't really any hills in Cambridge.
Copy of e-mail sent to those who have already registeredDear runner, Thank you for entering the 2008 Cambridge Boundary Run. We have

The route An up-to-date route map is available on
our website. The route is a mixture of footpaths, roads and earth
tracks, approximately 70% tarmac, 30% off-road. There will be direction
markers along the course. In addition, all runners will be provided
with a map and detailed direction booklet including photos. There have
been no problems with lost runners in the past, but if you are
concerned, try to run with others. An emergency contact number will be
available on the day: 07709921687. Safety note Some portions of the route will be on roads which are not closed to traffic. When running alongside a road without a footpath, please stay to the right-hand side, run in single-file and use grass verges to give way to oncoming traffic. When running along footpaths, please use pedestrian crossings where available.
Food and
drink There will be 5 water stations along the route, at 4-5 mile
intervals. The first station will have only water. The other 4 will
have water or sports drink and some sugary morsels. There will be
bananas and hot-cross buns available for runners finishing both at Coton
and at Sweatshop, but please pack your own food and drinks in your
luggage as you require. Half marathon finish
Half marathon finishers are encouraged to either use our bus
to return to Sweatshop or run back in order to minimise traffic problems
at Coton. It is normally a small, peaceful village, so please help keep
it that way. If you have not requested a seat on the bus, you can still
do so by email (les30@cam.ac.uk) or at registration. The finish-line event Sweatshop and Next Generation have organized a function room inside the club for our finish-line event. On offer will be:
