Dinner Match

Oxford win the Dinner Match 3 - 0

Match Summary

Cambridge lost the 121st University Golf Match against a much-fancied Oxford side by a slight 9-6 margin. Indeed, it was a relieved Oxford side - having been so heavily favoured, and having won by such a narrow margin - that headed into the clubhouse to celebrate on Saturday evening.

As with the previous two years, Cambridge trailed by a 3 - 2 margin following the foursomes.  Cambridge dropped the top three games, though the third pair of Ruaraidh Stewart and Benoit Ramsay very nearly edged Oxford’s favoured pair of Claudio Consul and Oliver Stephen.  Strong play at the bottom of the Cambridge order saw Peter Selvay and Andrew Dinsmore win comfortably in the fourth match, and captain John Valley and Alex Silver close out a tight match in the bottom game.

Cambridge were unfortunately unable to close the gap in Saturday’s singles.  The top four games were split evenly, but solid wins in the middle of the order handed the dark blues an advantage that even strong wins by Stewart and Dewhurst were unable to overcome.  Cambridge lost the singles 6 - 4, and the match by an overall score of 9 - 6.

Oxford captured the Dinner Match by a 3 - 0 margin.
