After a short introduction about vortices and their applications, I will describe the general properties of vortices in the abelian Higgs model (including topology and flux quantization). Time permitting, I will also talk about modelling vortex dynamics (e.g. N-vortex-scattering) as geodesic motion on moduli spaces.
