"Groovin' Hard"
Launched at West Road Concert Hall on Saturday 13th June 1998
From the Musical Director:
"Welcome to Groovin' Hard. The year is 1998 and in the 2 years since Perfect Fitz, our last CD, we've matured (as all cheesy things do) and expanded our repertoire to include material from every decade from the 40's to the 90's. There's Glenn Miller (In the Mood) through Count Basie's Flight of the Foo Birds, with Frank Sinatra's classic Lady is a Tramp and the Buddy Rich Big Band's Willowcrest, leading to Michel Camilo's very funky One More Once. One of these charts was even written in 1996; my own Teddy Bears' Picnic which is probably the hardest tune on the CD (but is it worth it, I wonder?). One of the reasons for playing more modern pieces is that they are more challenging musically and technically, although as a result we could easily do a limited edition bonus CD of all the trumpets' mistakes, entitled Fitz Splits!
But we have definitely not abandoned all those classic swing tunes from the 40s in case you are wondering - we still heavily feature Glenn Miller with all the 4 part vocal harmonies in jugfuls - little brown ones. So if you fancy a dance then hire us!"
