Events
Ever since the Islamic society was founded over a century ago and graced figures like the poet Allama Iqbal there has been a host of activities and services available for its members. It is through our halal pursuits that we are able to bring together, strengthen and provide for about 500 members, a number which rises steadily every year and insha-Allah will continue to do so. Since our Islamic community is one of the most diverse ones you might hope to find, we aim to organise as many different activities as we can to cater for all students, brothers and sisters alike.
If there's anything we can do in Cambridge that is halal we try to offer it. However, if you do feel we have left anything out please feel free to start it up; through this constant development we are able to enjoy the dynamic society we have today. Learning
For all of our short lives we are engaged in the process of learning. Just as we are here at Cambridge to increase our knowledge and understanding of our respective fields, we should also follow a parallel path of spiritual learning, to benefit us in this world and the next. To help in this important aspect of life, we have weekly 'Study Circles,' with short talks followed by informal discussions. Past circle topics include 'A young Muslim's guide to the modern world' and 'The life and times of Abu-Bakr as-Siddiq.' There's always a chance to put forward your suggestions and views. Separate sisters' circles are also organized.
The Prayer Room is a focal point of our learning experience. After every prayer the room is used for readings from important Islamic works, the authentic compilations of Ahadith being just an example. We also have an extensive book and cassette library covering all aspects of Islam.
For particularly intensive learning we also organise weekend courses with speakers and attendees from all corners of the UK . Our latest course was 'The History of Muslim Civilisations,' covering the time periods from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) to the Ottoman Empire , as well as sessions on the scientific and cultural.
