Quentin Davies MP will speak on "The EU Reform Treaty"

Thursday, November 1st, 2007 5pm

The McCrum Lecture Theatre (behind the Eagle pub)

Quentin Davies MP (Labour MP for Grantham and Stamford) will speak about the recently agreed Reform treaty and the implications it has for both the UK and the EU.

Quentin Davies has been an MP since 1987, initially sitting on the Conservative benches. He was the Chairman of the Conservative Group for Europe from March 2006 until June 2007, at which point he left the Conservative party and joined the Labour party. Prior to his political career Mr Davies worked in the diplomatic service, spending time at the Moscow embassy.

CUEUS/Aegee Meal & Film night

Sunday, October 21, 2007 6:30pm - 11:00pm

Granta pub (Queen's Road) and then Newnham College.

Meeting at the Granta pub at approximately 6.30 for a meal and/or drinks and then moving on to Newnham to watch a film between 8.30-9pm. If you don't want to come to the meal but want to watch the film or vica versa then that's fine.

We will be watching "Todo sobre mi madre" ("All about My Mother"), a 1999 film by Almodovar, in Spanish with English subtitles.

In my humble opinion, "Todo sobre mi madre", considered to be written during Almodovar's mature period, shows his imagination as both a writer and a director. The plot, put most simply, follows one woman's grieving process, focusing on both her love and her loss. The film won Almodovar the prize for best director at the Cannes Film Festival as well as a standing ovation from the audience. In 2000, "Todo sobre mi madre" won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and BAFTAs for Best Direction and Best Film Not in the English Language. Almodovar shows a talent for combining comedy with tragedy, excess and raw emotion in his unusual take on emotional relationships.
