Cambridge University Duke of Edinburgh Award Society
Residential Project

The aim of the Residential Project is to broaden your experiences through involvement with others in a residential setting. This section introduces you to some form of puposeful enterprise in the company of others who are not known to you.

Requirements:

In this section you are required to undertake a shared activity or specific course in a residential setting away from home and in an unfamiliar environment. You will normally require briefing or training prior to or during the project so that you are able to contribute fully and derive full benefit from the experience.

For many people, this is the most enjoyable part of the whole Award, and can be a very memorable experience. Spending at least five days in an unfamiliar setting doing something that you don't normally do and with people you don't yet know can sound a bit daunting! Everyone else will be in a similar position and some of the people you meet may become life-long best friends.

There is a huge variety of activities that you can do for this section: from working at a holiday camp for disabled children to 2 weeks on a sailing ship working as part of the crew. Conservation projects, leadership training, mountaineering, drama or music courses, inner-city regeneration projects or even working in a less developed country are all possible ways of achieving the goals set in this section. There are a couple of possibilities on the links page.

If you need any ideas then any of the committee will do their best to help. With whatever you choose to do you will have lot of fun, pick up many new skills, make loads of new friends and gain a large amount of self-confidence.
