Cambridge University Canoe Club

Varsity Competition and Blues Status

The following scoring systems have been agreed for the Varsity Canoeing Competition for the 2002/2003 academic year. Note that there have been some changes to the scoring systems used previously.

The overall competition will be decided by who wins the most out of the 5 disciplines below. Two wins each will be left as a draw. The men's and ladies competitions are kept separate.

Freestyle

This event is held at either Hurley or HPP at the start of Easter term.

Men:- Separate Oxford and Cambridge heats with 5 paddlers from each heat to go through to the final. Only paddlers who reach the final score. Points are 1st place 10, 2nd place 9 etc. The heats will be judged by the best scoring run in 2 30 sec runs, and the final the best scoring run in 3 30 sec runs.

Women:- Straight final with the top three ladies from each University to score, and a maximum of 5 ladies from each University to be included in the results list. 1st place 10pts, 2nd place 9pts etc. The positions will be based on the highest scoring run in 5 runs.

Click here for the details of how each run is scored.

Polo

The polo is organised alternately by Oxford and Cambridge.

Men and Ladies:- Whoever scores the most goals wins, plain and simple!

Marathon

The marathon is to be held in Easter term and will be organised alternately by Oxford and Cambridge.

Men and Ladies:- 3 boats from each University to score with a maximum of five boats from each University to be included in the results list. No more than 1 K2 from each university may score. Points are 1st place 10pts, 2nd place 9pts etc. University with the most points scored by their top three boats wins. Note that non-scoring boats may push other boats down.

White Water Race

This race is held alongside the BUSA river race held on the Washburn in Michaelmas term.

Men's and Ladies:- To be based on the team race at the BUSA river race. Teams of three race at once down the river. The University with the highest placed team in the BUSA rankings wins.

Slalom

The BUSA slalom is held at the Teeside course in February. Oxford have so far failed to field a team...
